FAQ
What credentials do Financial Advisory Service, Inc. (FAS) professionals hold?
Many of our professionals hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation. The CFP® mark identifies individuals who are dedicated to a high level of professionalism in providing financial planning advice. Those holding the CFP® credentials have agreed to adhere to the highest internationally recognized standards of competence and ethical practice as set out by Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC). Our staff also includes an attorney, a certified public accountant and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™.

What is FAS’ investment discipline, and what types of investments do FAS clients own?

FAS believes in the investment philosophy of asset-allocation and diversification. This belief is founded on the principle that owning an appropriate mix of stocks, bonds, cash equivalents, and other asset classes can lower the volatility of the portfolio while seeking to maximize risk-adjusted returns.

FAS utilizes a combination of stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, structured products, and other alternative investments. The mix of these securities is dependent upon each unique, individual client situation. For more information on FAS investment discipline and strategy, please contact an FAS representative.

 How are you compensated?

Most of FAS’ compensation is derived from fee based services.  FAS’ fee for managing a client’s investable assets is typically no greater than 1% of the assets under management, and can be lower dependent upon the level of assets managed.  On occasion, we may also receive compensation from our participation in the purchase of financial products.

How is fee-based different than commission?

Commission-based advisors earn a commission by selling you an investment or financial product, such as life insurance. These advisors usually promote a particular product that brings them a high commission.

Fee-based advisors charge you in one of two ways: either a one-time fee for financial planning and/or an ongoing fee for assets under management. As your portfolio grows, their fees grow. If your portfolio goes down in value, their income goes down accordingly.

Is there a minimum net worth required to be a client?

FAS has not established any minimum criteria for client net worth or income. However, we have established minimum fees for our services.

What’s the difference between FAS and a traditional brokerage firm?

FAS is an independent firm, totally dedicated to our clients’ best interests. We are a Registered Investment Adviser with The Securities Exchange Commission and therefore, we are held to a higher standard of conduct than a traditional brokerage firm.

What is the firm’s policy on protecting client data and privacy?

Does FAS have a disaster recovery plan?

Must I sign a contract that locks me with FAS for a set period of time?

You will receive a contractual letter of engagement confirming the services you choose as well as our fees. Some clients retain us to help them with specialized financial planning services or situations. Many retain our services over the long-term, using our investment management services. You can terminate your relationship with FAS at any time and receive a refund of any fees you are owed, subject to our contractual letter of engagement.
